Disclaimer

This is the part that I am allowed to share of what I incorporated into my daily practice — some parts are excluded.

My wish is not to distort the secret teachings of the higher vehicles of Buddhism, but instead to give an view on how they might look like. My teacher Khenpo Urgyen Tsering said it’s fine to share with like-minded people, since these prayers or meditations might inspire people and draw interest to them towards a practice path.

In vajrayana you always need the guidance of a teacher. This is mostly a mix of prayers plus Shiné practice, since I am not an experienced practitioner yet.

You can follow the links of the excerpts to find out the full explanation, and translation of the prayer.

20min Theravada Practice

If the day allows it I like to practice the mind-body sensing meditations the bhikkhu was teaching to the lamas in Pema Tsal because they are universal enough and won’t interfere. They build a strong base. Otherwise I don’t believe they would teach them in a sakya monastery.

20 Minutes Daily Practice

  • 5min Mind-Body Coordination exercises taken from martial arts like Tai Chi (see video below for the full exercise). 7 full-stretched poses interpolated by a connecting pose — half bent knees and pelvis retroversion. Breathing in an out must be coordinated with the movements and the exhalation involves bringing your lips together so to produce a wind-like sound.
  • 5min Ear Consciousness Awareness Meditation to focus on the sounds around us. Without judging. Only open monitoring meditation.
  • 5min of Vipassana Body-Scan, always equanimous, not liking or disliking the sensations, from top to bottom and bottom to top. If derailed into thoughts for long time important not to feel frustrated and simply bring back the mind to the meditation. Success is measured not only by how long you stay scanning the body (sati = awareness; samadhi = sustained awareness), but how equanimous you are when derailing and coming back to the pose. Mental elasticity is what counts at the beginning: how easily you can come back without friction.
  • 5min of Anapanasati, observing the breath: how the air goes in an out the nostrils and the touch of the breath upon the upper lip. Checking the sensations: perspiration, cold/heat of the air, tingling, etc…
