I found out that, for a long time, he used to run an girls orphanage (8 girls). He says it’s harder for orphan girls to get out of the streets into monasteries or other centres, whereas boys are easier — because girls sometimes are sent to India as sexual workers, and if they get sexually-transmitted diseases, they can’t enter Nepal again. So he focuses on girls.
I was surprised about him bringing Virgin Mary statues to the orphanage instead of only Buddhism imagery, so I brought him a black madonna from the Catalan holy mountain of Montserrat.
