Corrections for Losar Dialog
I started writing the Corrections.
Intensifier ཡོས་ and ཡ་ཡུས་
When trying to make sentences on Tibetan Intensifiers One Sentence of Each when practicing ཡོས། my tutor said they use ཡ་ཡུས་. Even more than ཞེད་དྲགས་ and དཔེ་!
Quality
I learnt the word སྤུས་ཀ་ for quality — used though more in the adjetive form སྤུས་དག་པོ་ good quality — but it’s good to me mindful about the fact that, specially when speaking about clothing, Tibetans use རྒྱུ་ཆ་ (?) — material for making things — instead quality but pronounced like རྒྱུབ་:
ཕྱུ་པ་དེ་རྒྱུབ་ཆ་ཡག་པོ་འདུག
This chupa is of good quality!
Funny Thought on Honorific
How would a Tibetan react to a sentence ending in ་་་གནང་ཨ།? 😂 Mixing honorific and non-honorific is a mistake we do, but doing it in such a way feels quite extreme!
Offering to Give
When having guests at home, after chatting and so on, if you want to offer yourself to prepare some food, you can use two options:
- ངས་ཁ་ལག་བཟོ་དགོས། more colloquial
- ངས་ཁ་ལག་བཟོ་ཆོག more formal
Thick
- མཐུག་པོ་ for clothes, hair, forests, …
- སྦོམ་པོ་ for dimensions, objects, …
So མཐུག་པོ་ also can convey dense not only thick, whereas སྤོམ་པོ་ is more about the spacial dimension analysis of the object.
I then imagined I could use མཐུག་པོ་ for soups or tsampa, but we can’t. The tutor told me that two words exist to refer to tsampa that’s more liquidy or that’s more solid, which I forgot.
