The three principal aspects of the path are: renunciation, bodhicitta and wisdom of emptiness, they are connected as follows:

Remember the 2 goals (nirvana and budhahood) and the potentials that they have and the 2 obscurations that hinder them:

Goal	Obscuration
To attain fearlessness (Nirvana; partial awakening)	Afflictive obscurations

Motivations

To remove the 2 obscurations we need:

1. Renunciation: the passion to want to come out of painful tears (afflictive obscurations).
2. Bodhicitta: the passion to want to experience infinite ease (cognitive obscurations).

Path

To materialize those aspirations we require the liberating path, we need to engage in actions that help us remove ignorance, effectively this is achieved by realizing the Wisdom of Emptiness: to see the reality as it is.
