Beautiful monastery in the Kopan hill. It’s next to Amithaba Monastery at 15 minutes walk.

They have retreat cottages (not a guesthouse) starting at (2026) 25 for attached bathroom. Minimum stay 5 nights.

It seems they organize every now and then Mahamudra retreats that foreigners can attend.

The gardens are very well kept and beautiful, and the views are spectacular.

Apart from the main ཧླ་ཁང་། (shrine room) they another one with a stupa inside that impressed me. That stupa has relics from the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche.

There are about 250 monks. They have education up to Grade 8, and after, if the monk wants to do higher studies they go to India, but if they want to do ritual studies, ཚོགས་གྲྭ།, they can stay there.

Very close to it there’s a cafe with wonderful views Gurkha Cafe, which I recommend visiting.

More information about the monastery at Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche’s Website.
